Kidprov is the improvisational comedy troupe that blends the art of improvisation with the process of education to create an environment where students can maximize their learning.
Through improvisation, Kidprov establishes a "safe" environment conducive to risk-taking and ultimately, creativity. In Creativity in ACTion, Kidprov uses improv as the catalyst to trigger these four areas of creative cognition. * Fluency (idea access) * Flexibility (analogous/metaphoric thinking) * Elaboration (detail orientation) * Originality (imagination)
I Can Create helps primary students realize that many of their daily activities are actually creativity in disguise! Asking questions, problem-solving, observing, trusting yourself and others - all basic to creative ideation - are emphasized throughout the program. Students spend an energetic hour full of music and improvisational games guaranteed to promote laughter and learning.
Math 1.0 becomes a "brains on" experience when Kidprov actively involves students in a number of improvisational activities that support and reinforce basic math skills. Students become an integral part of an improvised math show that focuses on concepts such as fractions (yes, fractions!), patterns, problem-solving and computational skills.
In Math 2.0, Kidprov destroys the myth that math can't be fun or creative by ushering students into the laughter-enriched environment of improvisational comedy. Fractions leap to life...lite rally! Mental math goes from chore to challenge. Story problems are given the royal theatrical treatment. And math vocabulary terms become fodder for some pretty outrageous puns. The final answer is...Math + Kidprov = FUN!
The art of language is humorously explored in these highly interactive improv comedy shows. Each program highlights specific language arts objectives - most of which are tested on state-mandated achievement tests (Texas residents read TEKS/TAKS). Language Arts 2.0 deals with the objectives of drawing conclusions, sequencing, main idea (stated and implied), context clues and summary. Language Arts 2.1 builds upon the skills taught in 2.0 focusing on point of view, cause and effect, figures of speech (personification and metaphor) and different literary forms.
In Golden Rule Tools, Kidprov employs improvisational comedy to present and reinforce key character-building concepts found in the Golden Rule: honesty, sharing, respect, empathy, responsibility, trust, and the power of words.
Over the Top Entertainment
I found these guys by accident while searching for something new for our library's summer reading program two years ago. I love Brad and Shaun, for two straight years they have come down and did a interactive show with all of my children. Then they offer an improv class for my older children, which they love.
We have so much fun with them and the time flies by so quickly that we are so disappointed when it is time for them to go.
The energy from these two guys is off the charts and my kids are learning and having fun all at the same time. I like the fact that they teach them it is fun to step out of that comfort zone and be a little silly or quirky and not be laughed at for being different but get a laugh because you are really funny.
I describe them as a children's version of "Whose Line is it" and my kids love it. The kids are up and moving the whole performance and they have their minds and imaginations active and thinking the whole time without any kind of technical assistance.
I have had them here for two straight years in a row and my kids have had a blast each time and did not want them to go.
They are positive and uplifting with the kids and encourage them with whatever game we might be playing. It is a positive experience all the way around.
